Wilmette is a vibrant community comprised of many strong neighborhoods, religions and levels of income. Extending approximately five miles west from Lake Michigan and is approximately one mile wide. The Village is committed to providing safe and reliable biking routes to residents and visitors and plans to improve and expand upon the current bike routes through various grant opportunities. The Village is fortunate to have a diverse urban forest with over 17,500 parkway trees. The Village earned its 32nd Tree City USA recognition for 2015 and is a recipient of 15 Growth Awards from the Arbor Day Foundation recognizing its commitment to excellence for its tree care and maintenance programs. In addition, the Wilmette Park District owns and manages two beaches on the Village’s eastern border along Lake Michigan. Gillson Beach- Lake Avenue at Lake Michigan & Langdon Beach- Chestnut Avenue and Sheridan Road.
